My name is Krishanda Davis, I am from Clinton SC. I am 21 years old my birthday is on March 13th, I am a secondary English major at this point I am a junior/senior due to me changing my majors a few time since being here, I am at least now sure that this is what I want to do as a career. I’m pretty laid back and kind of shy but will engage in classroom activities. I work at Sprint as a retail consultant I love technology and have been working in that field for 3 years now. I have 3 sisters who I adore very dearly, I’m very open minded and open to a lot of things.

 I read when I have time at night. I used to read all the time but between work and school, it’s hard but I always try to find time on the weekends. I read because it clears my mind. It’s better than just constantly watching TV all the time to me. I like to read when I’m alone so that I can clear my mind in peace. It’s hard to do it with noise and a lot of people around. . I just wish I had time to read like I used to. My mom keeps suggesting that I should start back reading like I used to. Nowadays, I read more African-American authors now like Zane and Kiki Swinson when I can find time. The novels that I read are more like love stories, fantasy novels. I enjoy a good documentary from time to time but I enjoyed fiction novels then and I continue to enjoy them now.

    Wow Krishanda, we're from the same hometown! Of course you probably graduate several years ahead of me, but it's always interesting to find someone else from our small little town out in the real world. I can certainly agree that it seems that we never have time to sit down and crack open a great book anymore.

How Starr Goes from Acting to Embracing in The Hate U Give

In The Hate U Give, Starr Carter is caught between two worlds. She lives in a predominantly black neighborhood, but her father sends her and her brothers to a private school where she is surrounded by white people. She talks about acting differently depending on what group she is around, which can create some identity problems. She says on page 11, "Funny how it works with white kids though. It's dope to be black until it's hard to be black." When at Williamson, she sees white kids that think it's cool to engage in black culture, but she knows they don't understand what she goes through in her Garden Heights community. She witnessed her friend Natasha's death when she was 10 years old, and she sees gang activity in her community all the time. Postmodernism in Curious Incident

Before I start writing, I first want to acknowledge that I just really loved this book! It seemed like a lot of the class had trouble enjoying or appreciating the novel because it's so different stylistically, which is understandable, but all of those unique elements helped make the novel more authentic. The main topic I want to focus on (also what I'm writing my paper on) is how a lot of postmodernist elements were used in the novel to make Christopher come to life. While obviously not every postmodern novel is about an autistic kid, I think Haddon really used a lot of these elements to his advantage and they ended up working out really well to characterize Christopher. One of the major postmodern elements which helps this book really craft an authentic portrayal of autism is the fact that it's metafictive. Basically, this means it's a "story within a story."
