Ms. Marvel
I love surprises! Ms. Marvel was that and more for me. I have always stayed away with anything comic book like and when I saw that we were going to read this I thought that it will be a hard read for me. I just hate being pressured to read a book that I find no interest in any level with. When I first starting reading Ms. Marvel it was hard to put back down! Just like the reviews said it will be, relatable to all kind of readers. I also thought that it will be hard to follow to know where to read next and ext., but to my surprise it, and in my opinion I was able to follow it really easy. I love that this was part of our reading list because it opened my mine up and see what options are there for my future readers that are interested in comic books. There are kids in my RTI group right now that I feel are going to be those students that are going to get so frustrated with reading that maybe without comic books or YA books that have pictures in them, these readers might stop being that... readers. I also like the message, Kamala a young girl who is in High School and is struggling to find herself in this world. She has the parents who try so hard to understand her, the clicks that she wants to belong to but she knows she is different than them. I also enjoyed her journey that took her to being happy with who she was and how she looked like, verses how in the beginning of the book she wanted to be this blonde with blue eyes. I will definitely look into comic book to add to my classroom library when the time comes.
Agreed. I think my only concern within the first couple pages of reading was to making sure I would be able to follow the story line correctly. Yes I agree as well with opening eyes to other options that are available because in this time period of society I think it is about being diverse in hopes of reaching everyone.
