Blog Post #4

I was super excited to able to write a blog post about this book because many of the issues displayed in the book connected to my life as well. I think that this is a great book for students to read because many may also connect with the storyline behind the book. We see in the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time that Christopher Boone has a hard time dealing with the separation of his parents. My overall reaction to this book was that it was a great one to read and it talked about problems and trials that many have faced and are facing today. A big issue that numerous people are faced with is living in separate homes with two different parents. In some cases, like Christopher's we see that he is first living with his dad and had little knowledge of his own mother's life at this time. Instead of his dad telling him the truth about his mom, his dad tells Christopher that his mom is dead. It was so sad to read about that in this book because I had an early childhood friend who had to deal with the same thing. She was faced with the true reality that her dad was still alive 15 years later because her mom kept her from the truth.
Another part that I really enjoyed about this book is that although Christopher is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome he doesn't let it slow him down and still works hard toward whatever goal he sets his eyes on. For example, the big math test that he was preparing for in order to get into college. That was a big part that stood out to me because it was good to see that even with all of the craziness that he was enduring at home, he still wanted to do well at school. The great news was also hearing how he received the best score that was possible after taking the exam. It was great to see how Christopher continues to break barriers and push himself to the limit. I totally agree with the author's portrayal of adolescence in this book because he gives us close insight into Christopher's thoughts. Also the fact that Christopher is only fifteen years old, the author did a great job at helping us to understand not only his actions but his life as well. This book does not necessarily relate to any texts that I have read so far but I think it was a great one and definitely one that I would want my students to enjoy in the future.
